Jindabyn and Queenstown Auroras

At 9pm on the 31st March 2001 the night sky to the south of Jindabyne NSW was alight with the colour of a distant bushfire, or so I thought. I photographed the lights for 1 hour before relising what they were. The incredible orange , red and deep yellow glows kept rising and falling like search lights until 4am. The colours are a result of Jindabyne's altitude (960 metres) which is why I did not instantly recognise them for an auroa. Only a handfull of very lucky or observant people witnessed the event, one which my wife gail will always remember as she first sighted and identified the aurora.
As a photographer I have plenty of different images if you wish to purchase any. We were also lucky enough to see an aurora in Queenstown New zealand on 21st July 2004 which displayed all the green and blue curtains which are the hallmark of low altitude auroras.Gail again sighted this one whilst sitting in a spa drinking a good red. Life is hard for star gazers.
